In the building industry compliance relates to the Essential Safety Measures requirements outlined in an Occupancy Permit that are governed by Australian Standards and the National Construction Code of Australia regulations. Furthermore, an occupancy permit will not be issued if upon the completion of a building project the compliance requirements have not been met. Failing to comply can result In prosecution but more importantly, non-compliance places not only the building occupants at risk but also those in the vicinity and the occupants of adjoining buildings.

The intention of ongoing maintenance is to ensure that every Essential Safety Measure continues to perform at the same level that existed at the time of commissioning and issue of the occupancy permit. Annual essential safety measures reports is a report that is required to be completed annually by the owner of the commercial building, or places of public entertainment.

The report will include all essential safety measures items as listed in the building’s occupancy permit. Prior to July 1990 these essential safety measures were not listed on permits, in this case, we will include all existing essential safety measures items that have been identified or provided in the maintenance schedule.
